Homeowners insurance is coverage provided by the insurance company to protect your dwelling and personal property. This is a policy for home OWNERS. If there is a loan on the home, the lender will usually require homeowners insurance. Your personal property coverage extends outside the home to include rental units, and international travel. Premiums are determined in part by building materials, location, and rebuilding costs in the event of a total loss.
